Briefings

Recent briefings held with partners across Massachusetts.

May 19, 2022
Where we are in this moment and what is next for Democracy in Massachusetts?

In 2022 there is an opportunity for BIPOC communities, young people, and immigrants to shape a wide-open gubernatorial election, and cement the progress of reform-driven district attorneys.  Also on the table are ballot issues related to sustainable revenue to fund public schools and transportation, and the classification of “gig workers'' with implications for wage and benefits.  The redistricting effort in 2021 provides us with additional opportunities to elect legislators who reflect the emerging BIPOC communities. The 2022 cycle has the potential to reshape the political landscape in Massachusetts for the next decade.

Wondering…..

  • What happened on Tuesday November 8th?

  • How many people came out to vote?

  • What will be the impact of these new ballot initiatives?

  • What does the 2022 election mean for BIPOC and other marginalized communities in 2023?

  • How can funders be engaged and supportive?

Speakers included leaders from:

Massachusetts Voter Table

The Fair Share Amendment (Ballot Question 1)

The Safer Roads Campaign (Ballot Question 4)

We heard about their work over the last year, their plans for 2023 and have an opportunity to ask questions, share ideas and learn how the philanthropic community can support and be engaged in this work.
